“Nice to see all Christians aren’t judgmental assholes that can’t admit when they’re wrong.”

What I saw and experienced at Pride 2010 was the beginning of reconciliation. It was in the shocked faces of gay men and women who did not ever think Christians would apologize to them.

What I saw and experienced at Pride 2010 was the personification of reconciliation. It was in the hugs and kisses I received, in the “thank you’s” and waves, in the smiles and kisses blown.

I hugged a man in his underwear. I hugged him tightly. And I am proud.

Here’s the embrace.

Subtext has always been a mystery to me. I’m kinda dense. I have little to no gaydar, it’s more of a wishing star – “I wish and hope that person is gay”

The first time I saw subtext wasn’t until I read about it in relation to Xena and Gabrielle. I had to check it out and figure it out for myself. I had never heard of subtext on tv shows.

Subtext is the undertone or unspoken words that are conveyed between characters on a tv show. The subtext that is usually looked for is lesbian subtext. For Xena it was a few things, They spent an inordinate amount of time together, men in their lives were short lived and when push came to shove – they picked each other over the men. They had tender moments that would be considered unusual for a best friends. Then there are situations they are placed in – see pic

That show has been off the air for many years and now I find myself relearning what subtext [and maintext] is and enjoying it more with shows I would NEVER watch. My two guilty pleasures for subtext are: Rizzoli & Isles and Once Upon a Time. Both of them scream subtext, R&I more than the other.

The videos above are fan made videos that pull together the emotional relationships ['Ships] that these ladies have for each other. So strong, that they have been accused of saying things that only married couples would say to each other. The story-lines for the TV shows aren’t that great IMHO, but I still sit through them as a way to enjoy the subtext. It’s like being a sleuth and knowing something that most others don’t. That alone is kinda fun!

And my final obsession has a female relationship that is main text – finally a lesbian couple on tv that isn’t used as a ratings gimmick from what I can see. That would be Lost Girl, finally premiered here in the US [been on for 2 yrs in CAN.]and they have an ongoing relationship on this show that is very organic and enjoyable to watch. I’m so glad the writers are being more open with these types of ‘ships and in some cases the actresses themselves are adding their own spin with the knowledge that we are out there watching for the subtext [and maintext].

Recently someone close to me stated that they didn’t like any of the candidates and therefore were not going vote. The person that this comes from is someone who is very open and welcoming of the GLBT community and I would consider a democrat as most all the republican candidates are anti-gay/GLBT. That would leave them to revote for Pres. Obama. Frankly, I have to say that Pres. O has done a lot of things in office that are positives for the GLBT community. Though DOMA hasn’t been repealed, there are many other positives that have been brought to light in a recent NEWSWEEK article

“Under Obama, support for marriage equality and marijuana legalization has crested to record levels. Under Obama, a crucial state, New York, made marriage equality for gays an irreversible fact of American life. Gays now openly serve in the military, and the Defense of Marriage Act is dying in the courts, undefended by the Obama Justice Department. Vast government money has been poured into noncarbon energy investments, via the stimulus. Fuel-emission standards have been drastically increased. Torture was ended. Two moderately liberal women replaced men on the Supreme Court. Oh, yes, and the liberal holy grail that eluded Johnson and Carter and Clinton, nearly universal health care, has been set into law. Politifact recently noted that of 508 specific promises, a third had been fulfilled and only two have not had some action taken on them. To have done all this while simultaneously battling an economic hurricane makes Obama about as honest a follow-through artist as anyone can expect from a politician.” – Andrew Sullivan, from his Newsweek cover story on Obama’s critics.

I have to say that from that description alone Pres. O looks like someone I would want to put my vote with instead of keeping it to myself. Even the thought that me not voting could mean one of the fringe republicans got into office just creeps the crap out of me.
