I read some christian sites that watch and whine about the gay community and how it can not be conceivable for a person to be both a Christian and love someone of the same-sex.
It is obviously that it IS compatible, look at the men and women who make up the assorted MCC churches or online forum members of GayChristian.net – it is obvious that God is in the lives of many of these men and women.
There is one Gospel singer – Marsha Stevens - who is also gay and christian. I remember her music from singing in our church when I was a little kid, back in Marshaltown, IA. She has a beautiful voice and her music is still very uplifting. I say “still” because so many christians want to think that if you are gay you can’t have a strong relationship with God. They believe that your life will only go down hill.
I think my parent believe that as well, if anything bad happens to you, it is because you are ‘going against God’ but if anything good happens, well… everyone has ups and downs. Yet for themselves, if anything good happens it is because God is blessing them and if anything bad happens it is either Satan going against them or it is ‘just life’. Very much a double standard!
What got me posting was an article I was reading about another Gospel singer – Cynthia Clawson – that had come out in support of gays and has received attacks from mean-spirited, ‘christians’ who disapprove of her opening her heart and arms to the glbt community. A sad situation and one that is unfortunately, not surprising.
I was also reading about a guy who hosts a TBN (trinity broadcast network – Pat Robertson founder) show called REMIX that has come out of the closet and declared that he – Azariah Southworth – is still a christian while also being gay.
I never watched TBN, frankly couldn’t stomach some of it’s gaudiness and occasional hokiness, but I wish Azariah the best for his future and the show. I also pray that Cynthia doesn’t let the ugliness of some ‘christians’ to spoil her love for those who still care. And a big thanks to Marsha for actually being one of the first out christian gays in the community – a definite leader in both music and life!
The only program that I watched on TBN was Joyce Meyer. Although she is against homosexuality, she sends a good message out, without displaying her views against it. I respect that.
A lot of Christians state that 9/11 was a part of God’s plan to kill gay people. (??) I mean, what about all the heterosexuals in there? It really kills me to see such ignorance in our own country who would kill in the name of God. “GOD” – isn’t He “all love”? No. They say that God is also hate.

The ones who focus their whole lives on other people’s lives (hence us homosexuals), must be so unhappy with themselves as a person; with their lives, you know? I just can’t see myself dwelling on issues – like, “OH GROSS – that woman ate so much!”
It’s none of my business. I’m not going to dedicate a blog about gluttony.
But still, homosexuality is seen as a sin because they think we’re all promiscuous.
It’ll never end…ever.
(Hey, happy belated birthday!)

I think many fundie christians only believe in an OT God sometimes, that is easier for them to understand. A NT bible God is much harder to understand, it is harder to understand love, forgiveness and grace as opposed to the OT God of good/evil, revenge, death, etc.
I have served God in a very strict church setting for many years where I was taught that gay is an abomination. I recently developed a relationship and have a same-sex partner, we are in love. This time has revealed God to me in that He is all Love. None of us are perfect and we never will be. I just know that we have to accept Him as Savior and look to Him always.

One thing I learned from my time within my parents evangelical church was that God convicts you when you are doing wrong, he speaks to our hearts to correct us.
One thing I have never come across is his hand pushing me away from the person I have loved for the last 12 years.
Even when I had attractions to women back in my teenage years, God never pushed me away, it was always man’s interpretation of God that causes conflict.
So if God’s law is written on our heart than he has control over it’s leanings
I’m very glad you have found love with someone and found love with God!!
