Matthew 23:15 -“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are
This passage was quoted near the end of a great sermon by Jay called “Free Jesus”(mp3). I am a big fan of Revolution church, I think mostly because I have lacked the sermons on unconditional love and grace growing up and this is a breath of fresh air and an inspiration to be the kind of disciple that I am to be.
A disciple who forgives, even when I don’t want to
A disciple who loves, even when I don’t want to
A disciple who give grace, even when I feel others don’t deserve it
Why should I be like this? Because God was this way to us through his Son and his Son was this way by his actions as well.
To get back to the ‘odd’ verse above, I am to be a better disciple by bringing peace, love and restoration to people lives, not division, hate and confusion.
As the one who I follow is quoted as saying,
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” -John 10:9-11
Even though there are some “Christians” who claim that God isn’t about love and peace, I believe differently. It’s how we should treat one another, it’s how we should be more Christ-like. The sad truth is, we’re human and we have many downfalls. This post was beautiful.
